The ancient district centred on Sheffield, roughly the old parishes of Sheffield, Ecclesfield and Bradfield, recorded from the Middle Ages as the lordship of Hallamshire. The name survives in the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire, the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield Hallam University and the Hallam parliamentary constituency.
