A seasoned salt, paprika-red and slightly sweet, shaken over chips. It is really a Hull invention, sold as American Chip Spice since the 1970s and 1980s, but it has spread to chip shops across Yorkshire including some in Sheffield. Not to be confused with spice meaning sweets.
