Sheffield's main river, rising on the Pennine moors near Dunford Bridge and flowing through Stocksbridge, Hillsborough, Kelham Island and the East End before continuing to Rotherham, Doncaster and the Ouse at Goole. It powered the early steel industry, was heavily polluted for a century, and is now clean enough for salmon to return. The Five Weirs Walk follows it east from the city centre.
