A series of violent attacks in the 1850s and 1860s by members of Sheffield's craft trade unions against non-union workers and employers, including sabotage and gunpowder explosions, the most notorious in Hereford Street in 1866. The national scandal led to a Royal Commission in 1867 and, in turn, to the laws that gave trade unions legal recognition.
