The pub on Alma Street, Kelham Island, opened in 1981 by Dave Wickett and Bruce Bentley as one of the first free houses of the real ale revival. Kelham Island Brewery was founded in its garden in 1990. It is famous for cheap, good pub food and a long list of beers.
