The city's red-brick Russell Group university, chartered in 1905, centred on Western Bank with Firth Court, the Arts Tower and the Students' Union. It has around 30,000 students and its Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre helped bring Boeing, Rolls-Royce and McLaren to the Sheffield and Rotherham border.
