Your Sheffield starting point
Local places, practical tips and useful links to help you make a plan.
Explore Sheffield on foot with local routes, organised walks and the details that make getting out easier. Find a short neighbourhood outing or a longer day with company, then visit the Walking community to share your discoveries. Start with the distance, terrain and pace you want, then look for a route or event that matches.
Use Sheffield’s own route guides
The council describes the Sheffield Round Walk as an approximately 14-mile route starting at Endcliffe Park, through the Porter Valley and onwards through several of the city’s green spaces. Its guide divides the walk into sections, so the full circuit need not be your first outing. The same council page links other local walks. Pick a section with a realistic way home and check the gradients, surface and daylight before deciding it suits your group.

Find the right people to walk with
Sheffield Ramblers publishes a programme of organised walks. Read the individual entry for the meeting point, length and joining arrangements rather than treating every group walk as interchangeable. When posting in the community, say whether you are sharing a self-guided route or inviting people to a published event. A recent photograph of a muddy section or a clearly described meeting point can help; avoid presenting one person’s visit as a guarantee of present path conditions.
