The best things on in Sheffield this weekend, 25 to 27 September

Last updated: 20 September 2026.

Looking for what’s on in Sheffield this weekend? From Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September, the city has an unusually strong mix: a city-centre indie festival, drag at The Lughole, classical music, late club nights, a basketball fixture and some quieter ways to meet people. I have pulled out ten ideas below, then left the full live weekend calendar underneath so new listings can still join the party.

This is a weekend when you really do not need to default to the biggest room. Pick the atmosphere you want, check the organiser’s latest times and ticket details, and build a day that has a bit of breathing space in it. If none of my choices fit, the main Sheffield events calendar has the broader list.

Friday 25 September

HAWXX + support at Sidney & Matilda, 7pm

A direct, lively start to Friday in one of the city centre’s most useful small venues. This is my pick if you want a proper gig rather than a night built around a playlist. Sidney & Matilda is also well placed for finding food first and continuing elsewhere afterwards.

Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and The Lark Ascending, 7.30pm

For a completely different Friday, the programme pairs one of classical music’s most familiar works with Vaughan Williams. It is a good choice for a more focused evening, or for anybody who wants to start the weekend away from the Freshers crowds.

Gut Level presents Shackleton live + support, 9pm

This is the adventurous late option. Gut Level has built a community around independent club culture, and a live Shackleton set is an invitation to hear something stranger and more textured than a standard Friday night. Check the event page for the organiser’s current entry details.

Saturday 26 September

Float Along Festival, from 11am

Saturday’s obvious centrepiece is Float Along, a day built for moving between live sets rather than planting yourself in one venue. Give it the whole afternoon if you can, wear shoes that are kind to hills and check the event listing before you start for the latest running information.

Groovebox at SteelYard, 2pm

An afternoon start makes this useful for people who like a big dance event but do not want to wait until midnight to begin. The listing names Sidney Charles and Luuk van Dijk among the bill. It is also a reminder that Sheffield’s weekend nightlife starts well before the late buses.

The Everly Pregnant Brothers & Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra, 6.30pm

A very Sheffield combination at City Hall: local humour and familiar songs meeting a full orchestra. If you have visitors in town, this is probably the pick that needs the least explanation and says the most about the city’s willingness to mix high culture with a singalong.

Trash Haus: Night of 1000 Divines at The Lughole, 7.30pm

For drag, performance and glorious commitment to a theme, this is Saturday’s standout. The Lughole is a smaller independent space, so read the listing and organiser information before travelling. There is also a full Sheffield Events preview if you want more context first.

Sunday 27 September

Non-fiction book club: The Anxious Generation, 11am

Sunday does not have to be a recovery day in disguise. This is the quietest social pick in the list and gives the morning an actual shape. Check the event page for the meeting details and any reading expectations before turning up.

Sheffield Sharks v Caledonia Gladiators, 4pm

A home basketball fixture is a strong family or group option and a satisfying change of pace after Saturday. The Sheffield Sharks team page carries the wider fixture picture, while the event listing is the place to check this game’s latest details.

Blood on the Clocktower at The Gamers Guide, 6pm

Finish with a social-deduction game instead of another bar crawl. It gives you a reason to talk to new people and is the sort of Sunday event that can turn into a regular group. Read the listing first if you are new to the game or need to know whether booking is required.

Everything else on this weekend

These are my ten starting points, not a definitive ranking. Times, availability and venue details can change, so open the individual listing before setting off. The live grid below updates from Sheffield Events’ own calendar and keeps the rest of the weekend visible.
