If you are putting something on in Sheffield, please list it. It is free, it has always been free, and there is no catch: this is a hobby project and there is nothing here to sell you.
How to do it
Use the submit an event form. You do not need an account, though having one lets you edit your listings later and add the rest of your dates in one go. I read submissions before they appear, mostly to catch spam and to fix obvious typos, so allow a day or so.
What to include
- The real start time, and the doors time if they are different. This is the single most common thing people get wrong.
- The venue, by name. If it is already in the directory it will link up automatically, with a map and travel details.
- The price, including free. “Free” is the most clicked filter on the site.
- Whether it is suitable for under 18s, and whether the space is step free. People need to know before they set off, not when they arrive.
- A link to tickets or to your own page, so anyone can check the detail at source.
- One good landscape image. A poster with the details burned into it looks worse in a listing than a photo of the room.
Recurring things
If it runs every week or every month, it belongs in Classes rather than as forty separate events. Say so in the submission and I will file it properly.
What makes people actually turn up
The listings that work are the ones that answer the awkward questions. Can I come on my own? Will everybody else already know each other? Is there somewhere to sit? Is it loud? What happens if it rains? A sentence of that is worth more than a paragraph of adjectives, and a lot of people reading this site need it before they will commit to leaving the house.
Afterwards
If a date changes or you cancel, let me know and it will be updated the same day where I can. Nothing annoys people more than turning up to a thing that moved.
That is it. More about why any of this exists is on the about page.
