The maverick psychedelic ritual-trance maestro comes to Gut.
Every now and again we get the chance to stick our neck out and tick a dream booking off the bucket list. This is one of those moments…
Shackleton (Live)
We first encountered Shackleton’s music in our hazy teenage years, where his foundational contributions to Dubstep, featuring slippery sine basslines over sparse percussion left a deep imprint on our supple, skunk addled minds. Nights spent in Leeds’ West Indian Centre, reeling in a stupefied disbelief at the sheer crushing weight of Skull Disco classics were a formative introduction to uncompromising, heavy and experimental edges of dance music.
Since then, Shackleton’s output over the last decade has taken various twists and turns, often maximal, always psychedelic, at times leaning into prog, folk, and drone influences, all the while remaining unmistakably his own.
This year, he released “Euphoria Bound”, which for our money is his most direct, confronting and highly danceable offering in years. It felt like the perfect time to invite him to Sheffield to present an hour of mind bending, leg wobbling, arm flailing music to loose our minds to.
