The White Lady and Canon of Beauchief Abbey

Local tradition places a white lady in the grounds around Beauchief Abbey and Hall, with another story describing a spectral religious figure near the abbey.

The documented history is that Beauchief was a Premonstratensian house whose members were known as White Canons. That history should not be used to manufacture an identity for either apparition: the surviving folklore does not establish who the figures were, or whether the similar colour language is anything more than coincidence.

The abbey remains a church and heritage site. Respect services, neighbouring homes, the golf course and any access restrictions.
