Bunting Nook’s reputation is not solely an internet-era invention. Sidney Oldall Addy included “the boggard of Bunting Nook” in Household Tales with Other Traditional Remains, published in 1895.
Addy located the tradition near Norton, where roads crossed, and described a ghost said to appear at night. Later tellings have developed their own details, including animal or hound-like forms. We label the record as folklore because the source documents a traditional story rather than a verifiable sighting.
The pin is deliberately approximate because the account concerns a stretch of road rather than one confirmed spot. Bunting Nook is a public road with homes nearby: visit quietly, remain on lawful public access and do not disturb residents.
