A tradition attached to the Ship Inn says that two figures haunting its cellar were smugglers killed during the Great Sheffield Flood of 1864.
The flood is extensively documented, but the identity and smuggling story attached to these supposed figures is not established by the source available to us. We therefore label it folklore and keep the historical disaster separate from the later pub tale.
The Ship is a working venue. Any visit should be during its advertised opening hours and private cellars are not public access.
