Castlegate is the oldest part of Sheffield, where the Don meets the Sheaf and where Sheffield Castle once stood. The castle site is being opened up as a public park, Victoria Quays canal basin sits at the eastern edge, and the Wicker arches and Lady's Bridge mark the river crossings. The Castlegate Festival in September is the area's big annual programme, and the quays and riverside host markets and walks through the year.
